article genre
(purpose,
type)
|
This article is a serious expose, due to the topic
potentially being a sensitive issue within young women. This will work best
for this particular article as there must be a lot of factual information.
The purpose of the article is to help young adults have a better
representation of themselves and to stop idolising underweight celebrities.
Additionally, this will also introduce the audience to problems relating to
self-esteem issues.
|
|
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person) |
This article will be written in second person in
order to speak directly to the audience and create a relationship between
myself and the reader. This suits the article as this could be a sensitive
issue with certain audience members, therefore a second person narrative will
sound more comforting.
|
|
Register
(informal/formal,
colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
|
This article is written in a formal register to
link with the “serious expose” style article type. Additionally, some
colloquial pieces of language are included in the article, in order to create
comforting and realistic connotations, mentioning aspects of people’s lives
that they will be familiar with, such as low self-esteem, low confidence,
body image and insecurities.
|
|
Stylistics
(repetition,
strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing,
rhythm)
|
The sentences used throughout the article are
particularly lengthy, containing a lot of punctuation in order to break up
the content, in comparison to a more fun and light-hearted article like Your
Festival Survival Guide; this is due to the fact that this article maintains
a formal and sophisticated register, in order to convey its seriousness of
the topic. Additionally, the headers used are basic and short, making it
clear for the audience to understand.
|
|
Tone of address
(hectoring,
sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
|
This article is written formally for the audience
in order to correctly and clearly present the factual information and
statistics needed in this article. Written in second person, this will
hopefully address the audience directly, creating a larger effect on them.
|
|
Structure and pace
(discourse
structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
|
The presentation of the article is separated into
clear paragraphs, breaking up each different topic; “Body image
Dieting, Media
Influence, Photoshop: Altering photos…And our minds?” The article
begins with a header, which introduces the audience to our media influences
and how celebrities, models, actors etc are creating an “ideal” body image
for young adults to idolise.
